• put(두다) + up(위에) + with
  1. (무언가를) 위에 두다.
  2. (위로) 들어올리기 어렵다[힘이 든다]
  3. 감당하기 어렵다.

come along : 화자(speaker)와 동행하다 [발전하다]

1. We're going to the movies, want to come along?

영어는 저맥락 언어, 한국어는 고맥락 언어

영어로 말할 때는 되도록 수동태로 말하지 않는 것이 좋다.

영어는 저맥락 언어이기 때문에 상황을 묘사하기 위해 명확한(explicit) 표현을 사용하는 것이 유리하기 때문이다.

• I completed the report.
• The teacher corrected the test.

 

반면 한국어는 고맥락 언어라 수동태가 많다. 상황 속에 내용이 담겨 있기 때문에 함축적(Implicit) 표현이 많다.

• The report was completed.
• The test was corrected.
